Oplatki Wafers

Want to add more to your Christmas at home? Oplatki is a thin, edible wafer embossed with scenes of the Nativity. These wafers were a traditional custom in Slavic countries and Poland. At Christmas Eve dinner, each person receives an Oplatki. The wafers are broken apart and shared with all members at the table. Some begin the sharing with a blessing or wish by the eldest member of the family as the piece of Oplatki is passed. The sharing of the Oplatki pieces and messages of love and good wishes for the coming year is reminiscent of the Eucharist and Christ’s love for all.

Here’s a tip: Dip your Oplatki pieces in honey to “sweeten” your new year!

Oplatki can be found in our lobby or at church exits. Donations are appreciated and envelopes provided.
